Adding a powerful ECL runtime interpreter to support a subset of query syntax to enable SQL like real-time querying. Essentially converting SQL to a simple ECL query syntax which in turn is converted to an execution graph and executed without going through the step of creating a workunit dll and distributing it.
SQL is gaining in popularity in the Big Data world with companies building SQL engines on top of HBase, HDFS and HIVE. This is based on the discovery that SQL is the most common language in the data warehouse world and it is here to stay. Roxie has already the underpinnings for a very powerful query engine and can serve as an effective (and great) data warehouse. A runtime interpreter will make this a very powerful concept. Dali already stores the metadata around Thor files and its indexes to make this feasible for queries.
